Entry Table

Today I’m working on an entryway table. The first step was creating a design with my client and making sure all the details were set, including [list some of things y’all talked about These may change depending on customer needs.

Now I am working on the table top which will be two pieces, the table a brim that will give the appearance of width and add stability to the top. For the top I selected my lumber from my supplier. Whenever I do this, I look for uniform pieces with either quarter-sawn or rift-sawn grain direction.

This does not always work out - sometimes the pattern on the wood takes priority over the grain pattern. In this case I had two plain-sawn pieces (same board) but cut them down the middle essentially making two rift-sawn pieces

Make it stand out

Now I try to account for any future wood movement. This may not be the final layout for the lumber, but this is a visualization of the movement I am considering before jointing the pieces together. For now I have milled the pieces I want and am going to let them rest in the shop for two weeks. This way I give the pieces time to warp and I can get a better idea of how they will move before I finalize the build.
