Entry Table Part 3

The stem and base of this table will be broken into 3 parts, two for the stem and one for the base. I will make the top section of the stem then joint it with the bottom section.

To make this piece I used ten 24” long pieces with 18.5 degree angles cut into them

Then I cut the groves into pieces and added shims. This will add more surface area to each piece and give strength and stability to the piece.

This left me with a 10 sided cylinder, I took this to the lathe and used a mix of the lathe and a hand plane to make the whole cylinder a uniform round.

As I carved into the cylinder, I found some knots and imperfections that I will either fill with epoxy or wood. Because this piece is being stained, wood plugs will end up looking seamless.
